Amazon non ha incluso molta carta (pure riciclata) nella confezione del Kindle, per salvaguardare l'ambiente. Alcuni funzioni rimangono nascoste finchè non saltano fuori per puro caso oppure finchè non ci documentiamo. Come la tastiera di un computer, il Kindle supporta la pressione di più tasti contemporaneamente, per attivare scorciatoie. E non solo. Di seguito vi elenco alcuni trucchi che si trovano sul web, tra cui il famoso Text-to-Speech non ancora attivabile dal menu ufficiale:
MUSIC / TEXT TO SPEECH
- Shift + Sym = Start/stop text to speech
- Alt + Space = Play/pause music or text-to-speech
- Alt + F = Forward to next music track
GLOBAL KEYS
- Alt + Shift + . = Displays barcode and instruction “Press the Home key to continue”
- Alt + Shift + G =Salva screenshots come immagini
- Alt-Shift-R reboot Kindle
- Alt-Shift-. restart GUI
- Shift-Sym start demo
- Enabled only if allow_demo=true is passed on the Java commandline. Needs a special demo script present on the SD card.

It seems there is a location capability (GPS?) in the CDMA module. I cannot check it as I'm not in USA but the following shortcuts are programmed inside the browser.
